Life has been crazy so forgive me for being behind the last two weeks on posting. I have been reading about a lot of amazing birth and some crazy birthing stuff going on the last few months and i wanted to share some of it.
I’ll give you the crazy first.
I am sure most of you have already heard the story as it was on CNN but Joy Sazbo, a mother of now 4 was almost court ordered into an unnecessary caesarean. Joy’s second child was delivered via a c-section with the 3rd a VBAC and when it came to deliver number 4, her local hospital told her that they had a change in policy which would no longer allow them to deliver VBAC baby’s. That to me is just crazy especially considering she has already had a complication free VBAC at that hospital! To get around hospital Policy Joy planned to move into an apartment far away from home to get the birth she wanted. Go Joy! where there is a will there is a way. I love seeing moms fight for the birth they want!
Now the amazing! A vaginal Triplet Birth! and it was a VBAC! A multi baby vaginal birth is practically unheard of now a days let alone a multi baby VBAC and this amazing mother vaginally delivered 3! oh and did i mention the third was footling breech as well. how awesome is that, this mom did what is practically impossible in our birthing culture!!! She did have an epidural but not for the reasons you would think, but rather incase there was an emergent need for the OB to reach up and pull out baby #3. This mom deserves props for having the courage and strength to deliver these 3 amazing baby’s!
Have you heard other amazing birth stories recently? I’d love to hear them!
Birth #5
I was reminded this week of a valuable lesson when it comes to birth, nothing is predictable!!!
this story began on Wednesday the night before when the mom called me and described to me the exactly what sounded to me like her water breaking. As the day went on her contractions picked up and occasionally would set into a regular pattern but nothing crazy. At the hospital she had her water checked and sent her home saying her water had not broken. She continued to contract through out the night and into the next day when her DR told her it was probably false labor. Friday all contractions had stopped and she went in for a non stress test that showed baby and mom were all perfect! so Mom accepted that induction was imminent on sunday and she went home to relax and enjoy her time.
Then comes Saturday morning 3:30am my phone rings its mom she has been awake since 12:30 with regular contractions coming up on 3 to 4 minutes apart. We decided it was good for her to head to the hospital and she decided she was going to call me after she had been checked or if she needed me. about 2 hours later she called me, contractions were strong, she was at a 6 and wanted me to come down. i was only my way at this rate of progression she would be done by 10am (given the 1 cm an hour theory).
I got to the hospital and she was laboring beautifully! handling them so well!! nurse checked her just before shift change and she was at a 7! so on we went with labor standing near the bed and riding the birth waves!
the new nurse came on and checked her at about an hour and half after the last check. She was at the same dilation but baby had seemed to move down a little although still at -1.
so we continued to labor, and chat between contractions (mom was feeling good!) a while later she was check again, no change in dilation but baby had moved down slightly! That is when the nurse got a little anxious, she explained to mom that she was a little worried as no progress had been made (remember progress was made though, baby was moving down and that is progress!) She recommend pitocin. She told mom she was worried because “3hours was a long time” and she was “worried about baby”. (Baby was steady as steady could be) Mom thought it over a bit, i reminded her as she had asked me to, that all of her sisters at stalled at one point in their labor for about 3 hours but then progressed rather quickly. She told the nurse no she did not want any pitocin at the moment that she would like to give it at least another hour.
20 minutes later the nurse returned with the dr. (the moms dr. was off and so this was the on call doctor). The doctor began to explain to mom (during the course of an insane contraction) that the pitocin would help her contractions to maintain a regular pattern and in turn hopefully dilate her. If she didn’t progress the next step was going to be a cesarean. Mom, Dad and I were shocked! and so mom agreed to the pitocin. Pit was aminstered and i got mom into a nice labor pattern. She began rocking in a rocking chair to maintain the motion that was helping her with her contractions but still allowed her body to rest and relax as she had been standing all day and she seemed to be tiring.
about 45 minutes went by and nurse was back, by now contractions were getting strong and mom was tired, she requested IV meds to help take the edge off so she could relax better but still be able to feel everything. (this was something her and i had talked about in advance) the nurse checked her and said she was at an 8 but was swelling, baby was now at a good 0 and then proceeded to tell her why an epidural was a better option. Mom put up her red flags and Dad began to explain to the nurse that no epidural was the goal, that mom was not going to consent but wanted IV meds. The nurse continued to argue with them. and so finally Dad asked if we don’t agree to the epidural how long do we have before the doctor is going to push for a c-section. the nurse told him that when the doctor called next and she explained the lack of progress (again progress had been made, small but still progress, and we weren’t at the 12hours that most 1st time birth are) that the doctor would probably want to perform a c-section. So we got the nurse to leave to give mom and dad a chance to chat. I explained to mom that both the iv meds and the epi would do what she wanted and give her an opportunity to relax however one would allow her to still feel and the other she wouldn’t feel anything. I assured her whatever she wanted she wasn’t running from labor that she did need to relax better during the contractions to allow her body to do as it needed or if she continued to swell it was going to be a c-section.
knowing this was her last shot at delivering vaginaly mom decided to go all in and take the epidural, which came along with internal monitors. Mom then decided to rest for about hour and they said they would check her then. Being my friend and not just a client mom sent me off to eat and check on my little one. about 20minutes later i got a text that mom was complete but that it would be an hour before they would begin pushing.
i arrived back at the hospital and shortly after the pushing began first with a practice push (mom was a natural) and so after the second practice push she was told not to push so that the Dr. could get there. (I hate not being able to push glad mom was on an epi!)
the Dr. arrived and with in two contractions of pushing baby was out, beautiful, and healthy!!!
Mom was amazing so confident, she labored so well!!! Dad was amazing totally fought for mom even if he didnt’ necessarily agree. But this labor was a real work out for me, i had to work hard to keep mom focused and keep her thinking about the things she wanted and remind her that changes in her birth plan were ok and not a failure on her part. It was a lesson on dealing with nurses who were uncomfortable with natural birth and with doulas. I also learned that nothing goes as planned, when mom was thought to go into labor she didnt and when she was thought to progress she didnt and when she was thought to progress slow she progressed fast!
It was an amazing birth!!! and not just because mom and dad are my friends
Birth #4
Yesterday was an exciting day for me, I completed my final qualifying birth for my Doula certification. i have some paperwork still to do before i can submit but the births and birthing hours are complete, so excited!!!! so how did Birth 4 go you ask? well it was an interesting, exciting, and keep me on my toes birth…..
My client had notified me last week she was being monitored for high blood pressure, on thursday she went in for her third check and they decided to go ahead and induce labor, i told her to keep me updated and let me know when either she was ready or when she reached a steady pattern of contractions (which is what they look for with pitocin) She said no problem! I check in the remainder of the evening but there wasn’t much change. At midnight they decided to go ahead and take her off the pitocin and let her sleep for the night. at 6am the started back up. i called around 10 to check in and her husband assured me she was doing well and that she would call me when she woke up. about an hour later he called me saying her contractions were getting pretty uncomfortable and regular. I said no problem i was on my way. I arrived at the hospital about 11:45 she had jsut been checked and was only at a 3 with 80% effacement. She said she wasn’t in any pain but one of the contractions had woken her from her sleep, the nurse kept saying “when you get an epidural” and they were talking about possibly giving her some medication that she didn’t want, all of which was scarying her ( hence the reason she called me). So we sat for a few hours in bed (she wasn’t allowed out of bed) We did manage to sneak in a shower so she could stand for a while and try to relax. When she exclaimed oh my! What we ask? she said the baby just dropped i felt her! we said good that’s great, she stood a little longer than she was suppose to and eventually the nurse came in to fix her monitors and get her back into bed. a few hours later She stood up again to try and stretch but of course in came the nurse to get her back in bed, while she was laying there talking to the nurse she said she felt a pop, the nurse told her it was probably gas not her water and left the room. a few minutes later she said i think it might have been my water i feel a little fluid, i said no problem and got the nurse, who checked her, she confirmed her water had in fact broke, and that she was now dialted to a 4. About 20min later the nurse came in to try and convince her to have an internal monitor (she was getting tired of adjusting the monitors everytime mom changed position) Mom asked for a few minutes and to speak with the midwife. the Midwife arrived around 3:30 (1/2hour after mom’s water broke) She came in and discussed options to make mom more comfortable as the contractions were getting pretty unberable for mom who was stuck laying flat on her back (not a good position for labor, and definatly a hard one for baby) the midwife said let me check you its been a while (40min) we’ll see where your at and go from there. (we all that mom was probably pretty close to down given the looks on her face). Midwife checked.. still at a 4 and no other effacment progress. the midwife said it will probably be a while, so mom decided to try nubane first to take the edge off. at 4pm the nubane was given to mom. about 10 min later mom said her contractions were pretty uncomfortable, she didn’t want one but she said maybe i should get the epidural if its gonna be a while. i asked if the pain had stayed the same since before the nubane or increased since the nubane. she said it had increased. I said how bout this, lets go another 10 min and have the nurse check you, if you’ve made no progress than take the epidural. But considering that baby #1 went from a 4 to pushing in an hour, and we were now coming up an hour, Mom, Dad, Grandma, and i were all hoping that her body would act that same, so mom agreed with my plan we figured that would give her an hour and if no change than this baby had its own plan, if a change, well than baby would be here soon and she could wait it out. i don’t think 5 min passed and mom said “oh here we go again” I assured her she was doing good when all the sudden i realized her face was not the expression of a women in labor but of a women pushing, i flew up out of the room and down the hall, grabbed the nurse who looked at me like no way mom is pushing. she came in and told mom not to push she was gonna check, sure enough baby had crowned! the midwife came running in moments later and in 3 pushes there was baby!
it was an amazing birth, non of us expected baby that quick, i had even texted my back up to come and break me after the midwife had said it would be a while. It was a wonderful birth and one that really showed how amazing God and birth really are and how unpredictable it all is!
Red Tent Event
I am so very excited, each year the Belly Sprout hosts an event called the Red Tent. I have been wanting to go since before Harvey was born and this year i am planning on it! the Red Tent will be held Nov 13th from 7-9pm.
What is the red tent? the Red Tent is a place for women to come and share their birth story. It’s a great, safe place for women to share their stories, get healing from one another. and share in each other joys and sorrows and grow and learn together!
it should be a fun and exciting event and whether you’re a new mom, old mom, and mom to be come share your story, hear others stories, and learn what birth is really like!
My favorite new blog!
Well there isn’t much up yet on the blog to read, but i am loving the idea behind it and can’t wait to read the stories. the blog is called the Perils of Hospital birth, and it stems from the Bloggers dislike on the recent Today show segment titled the perils of Homebirth where homebirths were showed to be awful, horrible things where Mom and Baby are put at serious risk. Which mind you is jsut not true, studies after studies have shown that Low risk babys are safer being born at home than in a birth center. the Infant mortality rate is lower, and there is less of a need for interventions.
anyway so you can submit your hospital birth experiances to be posted Here.
In the meantime this is what i submited as my hospital experiance… (mind its from the stance of my view on the hospital not my labor!)
So i went in for my 37 week and asked to be checked because i had dropped and my body was showing other signs of labor readiness my DR. said no that wasn’t even close and that when i came in the following week he would put me on ultrasound. so two days later i went to dinner and headed home to bed and woke up around 1am with my water broke! So after taking my time i arrived at the hospital around 3am and was checked in. The nurse said she wouldn’t check me because my Dr. was already on his way in for another patient so she would wait for him to do so. So we sat waiting. she filled out all the forms she needed while i sat there chatting with my husband. She asked me to rate my contractions and i told her i didn’t feel anything
so she put me on monitors and showed me the contractions still nothing, i was so comfy! but still really curious what i was so i waited for the Dr. in the meantime i needed to have an IV put in for antibiotics. so here probably the worst and most painful part of my whole labor. Nurse #1 comes in ( i had managed to get my dr. agree to take the IV out as soon as the antibiotics was done but the nurse said no cause i needed it for 30min every 4hrs so the LDR nurse said she would do a help-lock as the IV makes me panic) ok so Nurse #1 starts to do my Iv attempt number 1, fail, attempt number 2 fail. hospital policy nurse only gets 2 chances. so in comes nurse #2 the horror! she tries once again in my left arm. meanwhile my nurse keeps chatting to me trying to fill out her paperwork while we wait for the DR. nurse #2 gets in but out pops the hep-lock piece, fail #3!!! so now to try the other arm. now as if being poked like a pin cushion and having my arm bruised isn’t bad enough now i have a witch for a nurse trying to put in a hep lock while lecturing me. first she tells me how horrible hep-locks are and how i should have a straight IV because its easier to get in my arm. and how its so important that i have an IV because if something happens i will want have wished i had the IV already in my arm because i need it if i bleed out. and how if i do start to bleed out which does happen in labor then they only have a couple of minutes to get medication into me and if i dont have an IV then me and my baby could be dead before they get the IV in. YES you read that this nurse actually sat there and lectured me and told me my baby and i could both die if i dont have an IV in me waiting to be used. not that i need medication this second but that i need the IV in my arm with nothing in it in case i bleed out and my baby and i are going to die, all of this while i am laboring mind you! and not even laboring comfortably anymore as i was starting to go through transition and was trying very hard to focus on my contractions and have quiet!!!!! lucky for me my LDR nurse who had stepped out of the room came back with the head nurse because well my Lecturer failed at her second attempt at the IV, I can see why she was worried about me bleeding out if it take them this many tries to get the IV in i should probably walk around my whole pregnancy with the IV just incase! So now the head nurse goes to try and i look at her and said no no IV attempts for at least 5 min she said ok and everyone sat in silence, finally quiet! i finally told her it was ok and she did her thing one try and thats all it took, hep-lock in! off my nurse went to check on the dr. and i sat contracting through transition. Back she came to announce she would be checking me because my Dr. who stopped by to deliver a baby decided i was gonna be another 10-12 hours so he didn’t need to check me and let the nurse. Boy was he wrong! Nurse checked me i was at a 7! she asked if i needed anything i said i just need to go to the bathroom she asked why i said i needed to Pee she said ok but if anything else i was not get her! i said ok and after a contraction my hubby helped me to the bathroom i sat down and immediately realized i didn’t need to pee what i felt was babys head. so within 15 we called for the nurse to come back in and check me again. i was at a 9! she called for another nurse to come and help her. and she ran to the bathroom and to page the Dr. while i got comfy back in bed. i started telling them i needed to push they said no a few more contractions then i yelled at them to check me they said no again. few more contractions finally they checked me and said i was complete. i said i told you i need to push they still said no and then spent the next 1/2 hour or so telling me how i really wanted the DR there and how i shouldn’t push until he gets there. so i sat there waiting for the Dr. doing everything i could not to push. finally i told them it wasn’t gonna happen i was gonna push they said ok and let me push. 4 pushes later there was my baby! on my chest he went and in walks Dr. #1 (hospital staff Dr.), he says great job! what does he know he wasn’t here. anyway he proceeds to stitch me up as they take my baby against my birth plan and start doing their thing. then 15 min in walks Dr. #2 (my OBs back up) great job he says, again what does he know my baby is now 5min old! he says he will be back tomorrow as Dr. #1 has it under control. so off he goes. Dr. #1 does his thing, nurses do theres, i do mine, and within 2 hours I’m up in postpartum. 10-12hrs my A***! i was at the hospital for 2 more days with wonderful nurses but i never saw my Dr, he never came to check on! i saw him 6 weeks later for my PP check-up where he told me he called the hospital at 9am to check on me and they told him i was already in PP as i had delivered hours before! so Yes my Birth was amazing 4 hours, no pain, (pressure, intensity, work, but no screaming excruciating pain) and baby was in my arms. no thanx to my nurse trying to scare me into an IV and definatly no thanks to my Dr. who had better things to do than catch my baby!
Birth #2
So Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were all very crazy days! Thursday i get a call from Mom #3 saying she thought she might be in labor, what she described sounded like early labor so i said great, talk to you soon! then Thursday night comes and as i am texting mom #3 that its a full moon so maybe her water will break (they say it happens something about the barometric pressure, all the nurses kept saying it to me when i was in labor)…. anyway as i am telling her this i think to myself on no mom #2 she is due in 2 days! watch them go into labor at the same time! so on goes the night and at 11:45 i get a call from Mom #2 sure enough her water had broken! so off her she went to the hospital and on progressed the night no change, i checked in every couple of hours and she had not yet started labor and so she didn’t want me to come yet…. morning came and Mom#3′s labor had seemed to disappear, relief for me! but still my back-up was on call. i continued to check in with Mom #2 no sign of labor yet. Amazingly her Doctor had agreed to allow her 24 hours to go into labor, so exciting! So on we waited for labor to begin. 24 hours came and 24 hours went, no Dr. agreed to allow her to go until morning as long as antibiotic was administered every 4hours to prevent any possible infection from the prolonged rupture. so we waited and 7am came and 7am went and no labor, her only option was pitocin and so it was started. at 7:45 she called and asked me to come when i could as she was worried this would leave her open for more interventions. so off i went! i arrived at the hospital at around 10am she had been checked twice since she was admitted once at 7 to show no change in labor and once shortly before i got there. she was at a 2 with 75% effacement at her last check it showed her placenta was very close but so far it hadn’t presented a problem except that she would not be allowed to be checked period until 3 or 4 in the afternoon at which time if she had not progressed in labor it would be a c-section for her. so when i arrived her pitocin level was raised twice bringing her to level 3. at this point she was showing regular contractions and so the nurse decided to give her a while to see if they would be strong enough to cause change in dilation.
here i am going to take a break to introduce the nurse to you. this nurse was a self described “western medicine” nurse. she believes in western medicine and laughs at the women who come in saying they have done their research and they know best for their baby! Mom and i knew we had our work cut out of us!
so Mrs. Western Med left and Mom sat in her chair listening to her Hypnobabies relaxation! and Dad and i ate lunch. about 1/2 hour later the nurse comes back and mom asks to lay down i helped her into bed and after one contraction immediately declares she wants to sit. so we get her positioned. Mrs. WM asks her to rate her contraction 1-10 1 being little discomfort 10 being ready to pass out. mom says 8 with a smile on her face. Mrs. WM looks at it her with a look of disappointed and tells her that is 2 steps from passing out, are you sure its an 8. “7 or 8 mom says” again with excitement. nurse just kinda moves on not really saying anything. she recommends standing and i offer the birth ball i brought. so down i go to get it (2pm, 1hour from reaching her level on pitocin) she sits on the birth ball for about 20min, i applied counter pressure and Dad just hugged her. she moaned at her peaks and rested between. She was doing amazing. at about 2:20 she asks the nurse what time will you check me? (still with much enthusiasm) “I’ll check you at 3 the nurse says” 2 min later Mom asks can you just check me know i’d like to know where i am at. Mrs. WM says ok but to please have realistic expectations, its only been shy of 2 hours. She gets up and gets checked the nurse stops looks at her, and says you have made amazing phenomenal progress! Mom says yes but what am i at? Mrs. WM says you are at an 8! i am shocked! nurse is shocked! dad is shocked! Mom says how much longer? we laughed, Mrs. WM tells her i was expecting you to be at a 4 you know what it is to be at an 8 already? amazing! Mom wants to know when will baby be here, between 5 and 6 the nurse says, remember 1hour per cm and you still have to push! no that’s to long mom says between 3 and 4 i want him here. ok the nurse says if you say so! so we convince her get back down onto the birth ball and keep going. 10/15min pass and mom says i need to go to the bathroom! Nurse says no that is baby’s head you stay right there i can’t let you up. Meanwhile other nurses have started preparing delivery carts and getting ready for baby. Mom asks how much longer til you check me? nurse says not until your Dr. is here. Mom says how long, we assure only a few minutes.
By quarter after 3 Mom was up and starting to push! She pushed for a while in classic, made little progress. so mrs. WM suggests her side. we do that little progress. so then she suggests hands and knees a little more progress, but still not enough! so she suggests other side and so we go again and then again back to classic. all with only a little progress each time. So i ask the nurse could she maybe try the birth ball? no remember this is Mrs. WM i thought she was going to declare no way!!!! she says ok why not we can see if that works. Amazing! so we get her down and she sits on the ball pushing. after a few pushes she says she feels something, the nurse assures her she couldn’t sit if she was crowning but she suggests getting up and squatting and trying that. so we do that for a while again with only a little progress! and so return to the bed to see what progress she has made. the nurse says she is almost to a +3 but baby appears to be face-up (oh yes of course another challenge to add to the list) so she tells mom to push and she is gonna turn baby.
So on we go pushing and doing what we can to get baby out. one good push and he is +3 now to get to crowning. we do a few more contractions Mom asks me how long did you push for? i tell her not quiet this long but she is doing great! just keep going! baby is gonna be here soon. Dr. comes in to check the progress and she hangs out for a few pushes. Mom asks how many more? Dr. asks how long she has been pushing for? 1hr 45min the nurse says. Dr. says i think 15min you are making slow and steady progress. but if not in 15min then you have some options… we can get the vacuum out and assist you, or we could do a c-section. but i would recommend that we get an epidural and wait. Well mom hurt that declared she needed to push and in one contraction he was crowned. next contraction came and his cone-head was delivered. next contraction and there he was in moms arms!
a beautiful 8lb 3oz baby boy sunny-side up, cord raped once, 36 hours of Ruptured membranes and pitocin and a beautiful healthy baby boy was delivered vaginal and with only the one intervention!!!!!!!
it was am amazing birth and again such a birth high for me to be there, to see this mom who didn’t think she could do it, do it with such enthusiasm, seriously if you didn’t know she was in labor you woulda thought she was shopping, she had so much energy, was so comfortable, and relaxed. no screaming, no pain, even she says no pain just intense, very intense! it was an incredible day and another happy birth!!!!
My first Birth!
You read that right! i completed my first birth this week! My client called me Monday night to tell me she had been having regular consistent contractions but they were still rather short and far between. We were both so excited, she was one day past her guess date and really ready for baby #2 to come. i told her to relax, shower, and enjoy the quiet and call me in a little while. We messaged back and forth throughout the evening and eventually i told her to get some rest and call me in the morning.
at 4:15 she texted me “i’m sure asleep but……” (i was not asleep, my son had oddly woken up and i was awake. to me that was a God thing, my fear was sleeping through the phone and here i was awake for the call!) anyway they contractions were getting stronger, longer, and closer. she said she was still doing fine and was going to rest some more. i told her ok great call me in an hour! i got all my stuff ready and rested on the couch waiting for the next call.
at 6:30 she called me, her husband had gone to take her son to his aunts and the contractions were now 5 min apart 1 min long, she was in active labor! i told her i was on my way and by 7:30 i arrived at her house.
I came in to find her sitting on the couch, smiling and very excited! She told me she had eaten breakfast as instructed her and that she had drank some water. i said great, then let’s get walking and get this baby out! she agreed and we decided to walk to starbucks to get some juice. so we walked the aprox 1 block over 3 blocks up to starbucks. it was exactly what she needed, her contractions started getting closer together between 3 and 5 min now and lasting between a min and a min and 15seconds. she was doing amazing! she breathed beautifully through them without a single complaint or anything. and when they were gone it was if they had never happened.
The funniest part i think of our whole day was when we got to starbucks, she had a contraction just as we crossed the street and walked up, it was about 8:15, so of course peak time for starbucks traffic and there were a ton of people sitting out front and rushing in and out, and here we are managing a birth wave! it was hysterical, she is resting on me her husband is applying counter pressure and she is focused. one guest caught my eye and mouthed “is she ok” i smiled back and nodded.
by 8:45 we were back at the house and she appeared to be getting close to transition. Because she is my first, and because her first labor went really really fast i wanted to be on the safe side, so i told her we should start heading to the hospital. so off we went.
at 9:30ish we arrived at the hospital’s ER entrance were we promptly greeted by a lovely volunteer and a not so lovely nurse. They immediately in a not so friendly tone started asking her questions in the middle of an obvious contraction, and continued to get irritated when she didn’t respond. i responded for her that her and the nurse ran off mumbling how they needed to get her upstairs now, she seemed very bothered by the fact that the contractions were between 3 and 5min apart.
we were then taken up to LDR where we met and taken care of by the most amazing, kind, and supportive nurse, thank God! the first one had me a little worried!
This nurse was awesome! she was completely supportive of the birth plan, never offered any drugs, she didn’t intervene on the mom at all other than her 15min per hour of fetal monitoring. that was it, otherwise we never saw her or heard from her! at 10:40 after getting all checked in the nurse told us she was at 6, 100% effaced and zero station! what great news! in just a matter of hours she was more than halfway done! at noon she was checked again and was 7cm and +1 station! amazing! she was progressing so quickly! at 12:40 her husband i convinced her to get up and walk around and go to the bathroom to see if we could speed the process again, by this point she was very tired and sleeping between contractions. she agreed and got up for 20min then sat in the rocking chair. she asked for a heat pack for her back and i went to go find something when i returned she was awake and describing with a lot of energy to her husband what the contractions felt like. i smiled knowing she was at if not close to transition. about 20min labor she looked at me and said for the first time, they hurt, i need medication to take the edge of. i said ok let’s get a nurse to check you first, she said ok! i found the nurse who at 1:30 came in the room with the Doctor.
He checked her stating she had only a lip left to go, he told her to push and was able to bring her complete. they then broke her water and told her it was time to push!
It took a bit of couching but by 2pm (only 20m later and 3 solid pushes later) her little boy was in her arms! it was amazing!!!!! she of course said i’m gonna die, and i can’t do it, and i need medication to push but we assured her none of that was true and she proved us right!
It was a great first birth for me to attend, she labored well and easily, she trusted me, we had no one interfering so i actually go to coach her through without resistance for doctors or nurses. it was awesome and left me feeling confident and on a birth high! i can’t wait for birth #2 who is already 37 weeks! where does the time go?
Cesareans
I was twittering this evening and came accross a post about a blog talking about a term called pit to distress, it absolutely horrifed me and i think everyone should be aware at the insane the doctors will do to intervene with natural childbirth and the bodys instincts. anyway i would for sure check out this blog and do some more reading!

My Birth story published
So i know that my birthstory is here for everyone to read, but the OC register was doing an article on birth story’s and asked for submissions, so the owner of Belly Sprout in Fullerton posted a link and encouraged everyone to submit their stories in hopes to get the word out about natural delivery so i submitted mine, and it got published! so coollll!!!!!!!
