My Love for EC
I know this has nothing to do with birth but this is the mom side of me. I love practing EC with my Son. EC stands for Elimination Communication and i know so many of you will think i am nuts! i have heard there is no way a baby understands, i have heard it can cause a UTI in the baby, i have heard so many reasons why ECing is the stupidest thing to do. and that is ok with me if you don’t want to EC i understand its a little extra work to run your newborn to a toilet when they need to go and i understand that work isn’t for everyone. So if it isn’t for you thats cool! but Potty training isn’t for me. i have no desire to run a 2 or 3 year old to the toilet, they are just to heavy! i don’t like poopy diapers and have desire to wipe a poopy butt. no for me EC is the way to go and this is why…. my son who turned 8months on monday completely knows and understands what his potty is for. and well he hates going poopy in his diaper! i mean hates he won’t do it! its so funny he works so hard at not going, lucky for us we always keep a potty near by when it is time to eat and as soon as he is done he sits right down and goes! its great i can’t remember the last time i changed a poopy diaper! that is why i love EC this month! so to recap my love for my EC…..
1) my son and i communicate better
2) i save money on diapers, (actually i save diapers from needing to be washed because we use cloth)
3) i don’t have to change poopy diapers!
What could be better than those 3 reasons right there?!?!?! oh yeah this smiley face!….

EC success
so just a quick little blurb on our EC progress. on monday we were home hanging out as harvey and i hadn’t been feeling well last week or on easter. and Harvey managed to stay dry all day it was incredible. we put him on his potty about every hour or so, pretty much as he seemed to move from nap to play and play to eat and so forth and he peeded each time and each time the diaper was dry. it was awesome! just goes to show even a 4 month old can be read if you pay attention. i hope that is encouragment for those of you who think its nuts to try to EC a little one.
EC
So i am a believer that children will learn through association. I also was potty trained (as was my mom and grandma) by being placed on potty everyday as a baby until i naturally just learned that that is where you go potty and not in a diaper. so When a friend told me about EC (Elimination Communcation) it made perfect sense. it was a name to a theory that my family had for generations subscribed to. now please understand that ECing isn’t about training Harvey ECing is more about us as the parent learning Harvey’s signs and putting him on the potty so that he will learn the association. So anyway this is what we do…. atleast once a day we set harvey on his little potty and we make a pssss sound and he watches a potty training video and we wait. at first he would take a little while and sometimes he still does but pretty much so far is a success for us. he goes in his toilet pretty quickly. we have also gotten pretty good at reading his signs although we occasionally get a miss (but usually we know that we are gonna miss
) But anyway in the end we are getting better and we get a few more catches a day and harvey is starting to signal us more. its super rewarding to see this work for us and we hope that someday soon we will get to share how he stay’s dry for longer than his nap. So i would encourage you if you are having trouble with potty training or nervous to potty train that you consider doing Elimination Communication and as i learn new things i will be sure to share.
